Jury magnolias

These are some of the most spectacular of the new Magnolias bred in the world today. Size, shape and colour make these distinctly different. Bred by Mark Jury in New Zealand, they are renowned as the best of the new RED breeding in the world. As an example FELIX has massive size blooms the size of an adult's head in soft rich pink and BLACK TULIP has small tulip shaped blooms of rich deep burgundy black. Cold hardy, hardy in USDA Zone 5.

Black Tulip

Black Tulip Magnolia (Jury magnolia)Bred in New Zealand by leading Magnolia breeders, Felix and Mark Jury, Magnolia Black Tulip® is a stunning new addition to Magnolia collections.

This woody tree is ideal for general plantings and grows well in most climates, tolerating all but the coldest temperatures; it performs best in the sun and enjoys protection from strong winds.

Black Tulip® magnolia produces magnificent, 6 inch black-purple, goblet-shaped flowers almost tulip like, in early Spring.

Black Tulip® magnolia is an upright smaller tree growing to a height of 25 ft, suitable for smaller gardens or featured in larger landscape

Felix® magnolia is an upright smaller tree growing to a height of 40 ft, suitable for smaller gardens or featured in larger landscape plantings.

  • 'Felix' is an excellent landscape tree because of large brightly colored flowers
  • Interesting lighter green foliage
  • Gorgeous hot pink flower color
  • 'Felix' displays large, opulent flowers up to 12 inches in diameter

Special Notes

This tree is grown mainly as a garden or commercial specimen for its large and colorful flowers. Suitable for larger landscape projects where flowers are viewed from a distance. Though Felix flowers on 5 to 6 year old plants as with other Magnolias, it appears to be slower when compared to Black Tulip.
