Now it’s easier than ever to add an enchanting touch to your garden. Introducing the Fairy Magnolias®, Michelia hybrids bred by renowned New Zealand breeder Mark Jury.

These provide masses of blooms, are quick growing and fabulous for hedging, screening, espaliering, topiary and massed plantings. They are easy-care and require very little maintenance. This season, why not plant a little enchantment!

Fairy Magnolia® BLUSH is a Michelia hybrid bred in New Zealand, with beautiful lightly fragrant flowers blushed lilac pink and evergreen dark green foliage. It is ideal as a specimen shrub or as a hedge.Michaelia Fairy Magnolia

Suggested Uses

Growth Habit

Upright, compact and bushy habit.

Flower Size

2½ inch diameter.

Mature Height

9–12 ft.

Mature Width

8–9 ft.

 Spacing

Plant 5 ft apart to create a hedge and up to 8 ft apart for a looser screen.

 Hardiness

Hardy in USDA zones 7b–11 (and is even hardy down to zone 6b, with additional winter care).

Flowering Period

Flowers from March to May.

Number Of Flowers

Masses of flowers along the length of each stem.

Flower Color

Flowers start blushed lilac pink and age to white later in the season.

 Fragrance

Lightly fragrant.

 Foliage

Dense dark green foliage.

 Pruning/Pinching

Trim to shape, can be trained to single leader or trimmed as a bush, hedge, topiary or espalier.

Light Needs

Will tolerate full sun to partial shade.

Soil Needs

Performs well in a range of soil types, but prefers well worked friable soils; avoid very heavy water logged conditions.

Water Needs

Performs best when given moderate moisture levels over summer, but can handle drier conditions once established. Occasional deep watering recommended.

 Fertilizer

In a garden situation, feed annually after flowering with a general fertilizer. In a container feed in spring and autumn with a slow release fertilizer.

Disease Tolerance

Not usually susceptible to diseases, but can get some leaf spotting in low light levels and if crowded.

Pest Issues

No major pest issues.

Special Care

Performs best with good drainage and don’t let dry out completely when establishing.
